With unfathomable diligence Richard Koch went through biographies of indisputably ultra-successful people. In doing so, he has distilled the unique set of features that explains the depth of the mark such titans as Leonardo, Albert Einstein or Maria Curie have left in the fabric of our reality. As a true scientist the author has dissected the matter in the deepest and in the most unbiased, even clinical, way possible. Thus, the study represents a diversified collection of characters, where we are not just looking in the friendly eyes of Viktor Frankl, but are also faced with such a controversial personality as V.I.Lenin. This only proves and fortifies the point - in front of us is a verified and robust set of traits, a true map of landmarks to unreasonable success.The book is hugely entertaining and captivating. Richard manages to take you on an exciting journey between different eras, countries and norms of reality and assures no turbulence on the way. I devoured the book in one sitting, but will be definitely coming back to review some points.And a special thanks for the Douglas Adams reference - it’s always nice to come back home…

Richard Koch distills down the principles that resulted in unreasonable success based on 20 vastly different individuals ranging from Paul of Tarsus to Jeff Bezos.He argues that their success is a result of 9 underlying landmarks: (1) Self-Belief, (2) Olympian Expectations, (3) Transforming Experiences, (4) One Breakthrough Achievement, (5) Make Your Own Trail, (6) Find And Drive Your Own Personal Vehicle, (7) Thrive on Setbacks, (8) Acquire Unique Intuition and (9) Distort Reality. The 10,000 hour rule is not one of them. Nor is hustling.I devoured this book within 24 hours. Incredibly well written, thought-provoking and clearly structured! The only question that still remains to be answered is whether these landmarks are generalizable, causal and predictive?
