I had posted about it on social media but was not aware of the English edition - so I was now able to recommend it to all my friends that do not speak German.I did not live through these times, but through just the end of WWII, in Vienna, growing up in a grey city about which Hitler had once said he will make it the Pearl of Europe. I grew up on a street where more than half of the apartment buildings were bombed out, and we played in the ruins. I listened as a child to my grandfather, my father and mother who had lived through these times and I was afraid for my future. I thought then that my own future would be to go to war as a young man, just as they did.The current political climate in this world would make this a must read and time for reflection to everyone!

Great history details. A very sad history from the World War 2. It left me think about a Joung teenager had lo leave with a not so friendly Jewish with good heart. The guys gets very angry once the nazis take the Jewish guy but in anytime he tries to keep a cold head.
