Outliers: The Story of Success

I am a student at the University of Twente enrolled in the Honours program Entrepreneurship and Business development. As a reading assignment I was assigned to read the book “Outliers” by Malcolm Gladwell. In his book Gladwell explains with a lot of examples what it takes to be successful. I really liked the way he used the examples of real-world successful people such as Bill Gates to explain his important points. The main point Gladwell made is that Success depends on a lot of factors not just one’s determination and willingness, a person needs luck as well as the culture matters and many other factors. Also, what I liked is that he explained that to become an expert one must have a practice of 10,000 hours so talent alone won’t make a person successful besides that practice does matter. This book really helped me to understand where I as an individual need to work upon to get the success I am looking for in my personal life. Outliers by Gladwell is an amazing illustration for Entrepreneurship students to read about how success can be achieved through practice not just the inherited talent an individual processes. It is a motivation for a person who wants to become an entrepreneur but does not have an inborn talent that even he/she can become successful if some things are taken care of such as a lot of practice, seeing and grabbing opportunity at the right time.
