Es ist wie ein Abgesang auf Europa. Leider. Hier trifft der Autor voll ins Schwarze. Es ist ein kurzweiliges Buch mit sehr vielen Hintergrund Informationen, die ich bis dato nicht gekannt/berücksichtigt habe.Hier wird das asiatische Jahrhundert aufgezeigt. Europa ist einfach zu langsam und den Anschluss haben wir ohnehin schon teilweise verloren.Kaufempfehlung! Weltklasse!Wie immer top Service durch AMZN.

A very good contemporary account on currently popular topic on the rising powers in Asia. One point of criticism is a bit disbalanced description about positiv prospects agsunst existing and potential challenges.

As many here have written, this book opened my eyes (even more) about Asia. The future will not be entirely Asian, but it will be more Asian than it is now.I can only give this book 4 stars, though, because throughout the whole book I had the feeling that the author is very biased toward Asia. Yes, it might be true that Asian history offers far more than what we “Westerners” know. But to basically claim that Europe is an insignificant area at the far end of Eurasia and the Wests dominance over the past 500 years was a mere accident of history, facilitated by luck (had the Ottomans not conquered Constantinople, the Europeans had not sought naval trade routes with Asia and Colonialism had not started), seems like a drastic downplay of Europe’s own achievements. I feel like the author conveniently omits a lot of good things about the West, while at the same time also totally ignoring that Asia has seen a fair number of wars and not so good times as well.Yes, a lot of knowledge was brought to Europe from Asia at the end of the Middle Ages, but that doesn’t mean that inventions, ideas and developments from the West have not shaped the World to a drastic degree in their own way.I also don’t like the strictly geographic definition of Asia. The Author claims for example, that Judaism and Christianity are Asian ideas, completely disregarding that these religions have historically had a far stronger connection with Europe, although they might have originated geographically from Asian soil. The whole greater Mediteranean Area has been historically far more connected with Europe than, say, with China.Anyways, the book is good and interesting, but take it with a grain of salt. The author makes a good case, but he has also carefully selected the facts he included and did not include to fit the books premise.
