Very interesting book. But explanations for authoritarianism have already been made frequently by authors in the field of political psychology: Starting with Theodor W. Adorno / Erich Fromm who have coined the term "authoritarian character / personality" some 80 years ago, later on Alice Miller by examining the childhood of Adolf Hitler in "For your own good", and later on Sheree Conrad / Michael Milburn in "Raised to rage" or George Lakoff (strict father model). Their common message is that a punitive childhood psychologically leads to a longing to a strict father figure. Because "the private is political" also matters regarding parenting styles.
