As someone, who read a lot about the history of walking, this is truly a great book. One of the few, that have a scientific value and at the same time a popular style (in the best sense of the word). Especially Solnits thoughts on walking and thinking are great! Be careful about the version you buy: this release by Granta-publisher is very bad printed (you see the pixels within the single letters and on bad paper). If you plan to read the whole book, get yourself one of the better releases.
