However, little academic literature exists as to whether this approach to development results in sustainable capacities in host organisations. To what extent are the changes brought about by the volunteers sustained when they leave Is the traditional approach of sharing skills to counterpart staff adequate This book examines these and other questions of sustainability in development through international volunteers. The analysis of challenges and strategies, and the recommendations will be of interest to volunteers, managers, and organisations involved in capacity development.
